Fire in the neighborhood

Published by sewingmama at 10:59 pm under Ella,Eman,Parenting, sweet moments

The day started just fine. Eman had his usual early bath and after setting him up for his morning nap, I started to wash the pre-soaked whites. I went out yesterday to do a little grocery shopping which is consisted mainly of laundry powder and fabric softener because I so wanted to to the laundry today. Since I don’t have any excuse now (Eman was already out in the world), I did the washing but Donald helped me with hanging in the clothesline because he knew I really really hate that job. It was already half past twelve when we had our lunch. Ella was always busy on her art works lately and she always ask me to buy her art pieces. I told her to keep them all and I will pay her on her birthday. Eman just slept the rest of the morning and I am glad he has outgrown the attitude of eating more than twelve times in 24 hours. Now I can do some chores and sit in the computer without holding him to nurse but he sure does showing some attitude! He would whine when he can’t get his sleep and if you can’t tell what he is crying for (if he’s hungry, wet or just wanted to get held), you would be as crazy as the daddy.
In the afternoon, Eman was still sleeping while Ella and I played games in the computer. Donald was on the floor trying to nap but it’s not fair so I made sure he won’t have a peaceful sleep. hahahaha! I would call his name and ask him something then I would start a conversation until he would realize that I just don’t want him to sleep. It wasn’t long until I noticed a man running, then another neighbor followed to his direction and Charlie came running too and went inside Uncle Iting’s yard. I felt blood rushing on my head. I was thinking the crazy neighbors are on heated argument again and started killing each other. I am not joking! That is what I am afraid of and one day that will happen. When I saw the commotion, I stood from my seat and ran to lock the front door then I went to lock the back door too thinking they might get in the church yard and will get in the house. I know I was getting so paranoid but I tell you, there is a great possibility that’ll happen here. After securing the locks, I turned off the tv and went to peek at the window in the bedroom and I was greeted with smoke and flames! I woke up the sleeping Donald and we both rushed outside the house.

The house beside the furniture shop is on fire and I could see the neighbors throwing bucket after bucket of well water. I knew that wouldn’t help and so I panicked. I panicked because the parsonage might get burned down to ashes along with all our stuffs. This photo was taken by Donald (thanks Partz for remembering to take some snaps) after getting carried away with my emotions. It is so funny how I managed to yell to Donald to get our sheets and towels hung near the burning cottage and to think about how “sayang” the sachets of Downy will be if the smoke gets in all the clothes. hahahaha!

It was the most silent fire I have witnessed because I did not hear a single shout for help. I remember seeing this young lady running barefoot with a bucket, some fetching water in the well, people running around the place trying to grab all the wood (for the furnitures) and the motorbike that could have blasted if not pulled by one neighbor. After seeing that all the laundry is safe, I pushed the stroller (with Eman still sleeping so soundly) out of the house to the street. I was shaking at that time and the neighbors at the store was so kind to give me a glass of water. They are stopping me from going back in the house afraid that I might faint but I insisted that I’d be alright and I just need to check on Ella who was with Donald. A kind neighbor went to get Ella before I could leave so I left her at the store to watch Eman.

The firetruck finally arrived.

The firefighter might have not been to an actual fire. He seem not so sure how to use that thing he’s holding.

He was trying to adjust the pressure with no luck.

Until the chief noticed he needed a hand. There’s no need to hurry because the fire is almost out when they arrived….

….and they should thank the neighbors for leaving them some little flames for them to put out. I don’t know why it’s always like that here in the Philippines. back in my hometown I have witnessed a fire incident where the firetruck came without water in the tank. In fairness to Trento Fire Department, they came with a tank full of water and I could not blame them for coming when the fire has already been put out because the house was too small that it didn’t take so long to get it burned down to the ground. hahahaha!
